My Story:

(With all of the improbable connections necessary to get from Poland to Scotland in the 16th century.)

Born in 1530, Annaka is the daughter of a former soldier who owns an inn on the outskirts of the city of Poznan. Listening to her father tell tales of his adventures when he was with the Polish cavalry, she dreamed of one day traveling to far-off lands. After spending several years as a silkwoman, she saved enough money to buy passage to the new French settlement of Quebec.

The under-financed effort of a 16th century entrepreneur, the Quebec settlement expedition was doomed from the start. Their ship was unfit for such a long journey, and they had to turn back after a week at sea. To pay for repairs and reprovisioning, the captain set out on what was supposed to be a quick trading voyage, with most of his original passengers still aboard, to Wales and Ireland. Storms, fog, an uncharted rock, and a little faulty navigation (although no one will admit to it), all result in an unplanned beaching on the west coast of Scotland. Annaka decides that she has had enough of waiting for the next high tide with this group, and starts walking towards the nearest settlement. On the way, she meets up with a group of mercenaries, accepts an invitation to stay with them, and becomes a member of Clan Carn.
